Crack stitching is a structural masonry repair technique that uses high-tensile stainless-steel helical bars bedded into slots cut across a crack to re-bond the wall. Once installed and grouted, the reinforcement redistributes load across the affected area, closing the crack's path and preventing further movement.
It's typically used where a wall has suffered thermal movement, minor subsidence recovery, lintel failure, or bay-window separation. Compared to rebuilding, crack stitching is quick, keeps the original masonry in place, and is far less disruptive — an approach recognised in industry guidance as an effective long-term repair for stabilised, non-progressive cracks.
